Bright, White, Modern Kitchens

What's not to love about a bright, white, modern kitchen?  These are the epitome of simple and chic and a little color goes a long way.  I especially like the use of shelves instead of above counter cabinets, makes them even more unique.

Kohler

I had opportunity to be a guest at the Carriage House, in Kohler, Wisconsin back in August...I know it's terrible, but I'm just now sharing.   I was to take a tour of Kohler, and I mean the whole experience starting with the hotel itself, decked out in the finest.  Then off to the Kohler Showroom, next day to the Kohler Factory and the Ann Sacks showroom, lunch at the American Club and a tour of a their World Class Waters Spa.  I'll tell you one thing, in a time where custom satisfaction is at an all time low, and companies (especially big companies), think of you as just another number.  A tour like this--where they want to educate their clients and help us to understand the companies history and the ideology behind their brand, not to mention a company that produces in the United States, created a client for life.  They really are a classy company, with a family of products ranging from Ann Sacks to Baker and even to their higher end fixture line Kallista...Barbara Barry has an amazing collection through Kallista, by the way.
Below are some of the fantastic bathrooms at their showroom!

Star Wars Nursery!

This summer I received a phone call from one of my previous clients-they were pregnant and needed the room re-designed to welcome the little addition to the fam.  The only catch was that it was to have a theme, and that theme was--Star Wars.  Okay, I know it's crazy (as I'm told) but I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies, not one.  I couldn't tell you who R2D2 is or Chewbaca..for the life of me.  So I did a little research and found out that people are crazy about Star Wars, but that there aren't any Mobiles (the spinning thing that babies are suppose to look at in their cribs) and many other things that we here at NYID had to basically have made and constructed.  I saw a pillow online that had the Star Wars fabric cut out to spell the babies name, that was a cute idea, so we followed suit.  Adding a multi-globe like pendant light that resembles the planets and at night the ceiling is ablaze with the entire solar system (okay I went a little crazy on the stars).  Here is a sneak peak at my idea of a themed nursery!

Carrara Subway Tile

Just flew in from working on a couple remodel projects in Colorado-below is the renovation of one of the kitchens.  It was a smaller kitchen that needed to have all the appliances along with a seating area.  I started by taking half of the wall out, to open it up and appear larger and not feel so "boxed in."  We used simple materials and a grey/white color scheme mixed with stainless steel appliances and fixtures.  We had the floor- which was this gorgeous faux walnut wood ceramic tile- layed in an offset pattern, to resemble the existing hardwood floors throughout.  The counters are Caesarstone Quartz, back-splash is Carrara Subway Tile and we kept it simple with white pre-fab cabinetry.
